Dear Collector,
Welcome to our catalogue number 88.
Our previous catalogue sold very well and it is clear
that good items are readily finding new homes.
The British Commonwealth section has several new
Falkland Islands lots including Queen Victoria, Edward VII and George V
high values in mint condition with most values represented and well
worth checking out. Of particular note are the 1933 Centenary set top
values. The selection of Tasmanian early issues includes many stamps we
have not handled for some time and with good quality also in evidence.
New Zealand Chalons are well represented and we are pleased to be able
to offer examples of this complex issue. Gibraltar 124ab sideways
watermark is a very rare stamp and the example we have with part of the
coil join confirms the provenance of this stamp which we have not
offered in many a year. Other sections of note include Selangor,
Palestine and early Seychelles.
The Great Britain section contains a wide range of
fascinating material. Of major importance to collectors is the letter
signed by Sir Rowland Hill, who introduced postal reform. The 1844
Mulready used in Stony Stratford is of exceptional quality and is all
the more interesting for being a very late usage. It is so clean that at
first we thought it was a reprint! Sometimes stamps can be like London
buses, none for ages and then… For the second auction running we have a
mint 1840 Twopence Blue, this one being Plate 2 and catalogues at a
massive £35,000. Our price is very competitive for what is a truly rare
stamp. We have a nice example of the Queen Victoria 1/- Green ‘Stock
Exchange’ forgery which is presented on a sizeable part of a Post Office
form. The’ imperforate’ Northern Ireland Retail booklet SG PM2 / 2445a
error is very rare with only 4 or 5 known. Given the strong market for
GB errors of late we do not belive this will be in stock very long.
The photo plates illustrate the range and quality of
material on offer. We hope you find something of interest for your
collection.
Remember - this catalogue is also issued with the photos
online and there is a secure online bidding facility. We send an email
to those customers who have requested it advising when the online
catalogue is available to view. Additionally, we send occasional email
special offers to all people on the Buy or Bid email circulation lists.
These are generally not offered elsewhere and it costs nothing to get
this information. If you would like this service please provide your
email address and we will add you to the circulation list.
As usual you can fax, phone or email your bids to us.
We look forward to hearing from you. If you have an email address please
